To apply for an IDNYC card, you will need documents that prove your identity and that you live in New York City.

If you have one of the following showing your current New York City address, you do not need to bring any other identification:

• Current New York State Driver's License
• Current New York State Learner's Permit
• Current New York State Non-Driver ID Card
• New York City Restricted Handgun License issued by the New York Police Department
• New York City Department of Probation Print-out with Photo
• U.S. Department of State Driver License or Non-Drivers Identification Card
• IDNYC for Middle School Students Application signed by caretaker only when presented at a school pop-up and verified by DOE

Otherwise, you will need a combination of documents to prove both your identity and residency. At least one of the documents must show your date of birth and one must have your photo (unless you are accompanied by a caretaker who can demonstrate proof of relationship). Machine readable passports that expired within the last three years will qualify for points of identity and satisfy the photo ID requirement.

Only original documents and certified copies by original agencies are accepted. All of the original documents you use to prove your identity or residency will be returned to you before you leave the Enrollment Center. To get an IDNYC card, you will need to prove both your identity and your New York City residency. The program has assigned point values to different types of documents. You will need to prove at least three points worth of identity documents and at least one point worth of residency documents.

Documents that prove both residency and identity include:

• A New York State Driver's License with a current New York City address
• A New York State Department of Motor Vehicles ID card with a current New York City address

If you have one of the above documents, you will not need any further documents to apply for an IDNYC card.
